Reddit RSS Feeds End Nov 13: What Breaks and What to Do

Picture a small SaaS team that gets a Slack alert every time someone mentions its product in r/SaaS or r/smallbusiness. Behind that alert is often a single Reddit RSS feed piped through Zapier. On November 13, 2026, the Reddit RSS feed shutdown takes effect and that alert goes quiet with no error message. Reddit announced on October 1 that it is retiring RSS feeds and closing its public Data API in stages through March 2027. If your marketing, support or research depends on Reddit data, here is what stops working, who keeps access, and what to set up instead.

Five dates in Reddit's plan. Three of them break existing setups.

The dates, in plain terms

  • October 31, 2026: Reddit stops accepting new requests for public API access.
  • November 13, 2026: RSS feeds are retired. Reddit says there is "no replacement" for RSS used outside the communities you moderate.
  • November 30, 2026: deadline for Reddit's $1 million App Migration Program, which pays $1,000 per eligible app that moves to its Developer Platform.
  • January 12, 2027: apps that are not registered start losing API access.
  • March 2027: the remaining public API access closes. Data API apps need to run on Reddit's Developer Platform (Devvit) by then.

Reddit gives two reasons for the change in its posts to r/modnews and r/redditdev: "large-scale scraping and automated abuse." Yahoo Tech notes the timing also follows Reddit's paid AI data licensing deals with Google and OpenAI. Closing free feeds makes Reddit's data harder to collect without a contract.

Does this affect you? Five common setups

Who is affected, and what to do instead
Common ways businesses and creators pull Reddit data today.
How you use Reddit today Impact What to do before the cutoff
RSS feed in Feedly, Inoreader or a reader app breaks Nov 13 Follow the subreddits in a logged-in account and turn on Reddit's own notifications, or move to a monitoring tool that has official data access
Zapier, Make or IFTTT RSS trigger breaks Nov 13 List every automation that uses a reddit.com feed URL and rebuild it on an officially supported source
Brand or keyword alerts from a social listening tool ask vendor Ask your vendor in writing whether its Reddit data comes from RSS, the public API or a licensed feed
Your own bot or script on the Data API Jan–Mar 2027 Register the app, plan a move to the Developer Platform, apply for the $1,000 migration payment by Nov 30
Moderating your own community mostly kept Automoderator keeps working for existing communities; check which mod alerts relied on RSS

Feed readers (Feedly, Inoreader and others)

Any subscription to a feed URL on reddit.com, such as a subreddit's /.rss address or a search feed, stops updating on November 13. Your reader will simply show no new posts. Unless your reader announces an official Reddit integration, plan to follow those communities from a logged-in Reddit account instead.

No-code automations (Zapier, Make, IFTTT)

This is the setup most likely to fail without anyone noticing. Many "new Reddit post" automations are built on the generic RSS trigger, not a Reddit app. Open each automation and check the trigger. If it points at a reddit.com feed URL, it needs rebuilding on a source that Reddit officially supports.

Social listening and brand monitoring tools

Reddit's notice does not tell you how any particular vendor gets its data. Some use licensed access, others may rely on RSS or the public API. Email your vendor and ask a direct question: "How will your Reddit coverage work after November 13, 2026, and after March 2027?" Get the answer in writing before your next renewal.

Your own scripts and bots

If you wrote a bot or internal tool on the Data API, register it now. New access requests close October 31. Then plan the move to the Developer Platform before the January 12 phase-out starts. Unite.ai reports that more than 14,000 apps and bots have already registered, including popular ones like RemindMeBot.

Moderators of your own community

Mostly unaffected. Automoderator keeps working for existing communities, and moderators keep access to Old Reddit. Check whether any of your mod alerts were built on RSS, though, because those stop on November 13 like everyone else's.

What to use instead of Reddit RSS

There is no one-for-one replacement, so match the tool to the job:

  • To keep reading a few communities: join them in a logged-in account and turn on Reddit's own notifications. It is free and needs no setup beyond an account.
  • To track brand or keyword mentions for a business: use a monitoring tool that can show you its Reddit data source. Treat "we scrape it" as a red flag, since that is exactly what Reddit is shutting down.
  • To build something custom: build on Reddit's Developer Platform. It is the only route Reddit says will survive past March 2027, and the migration program pays $1,000 per eligible app if you apply by November 30.

A 30-minute checklist to run before October 31

A 30-minute Reddit cutoff checklist
Do this once before October 31, 2026.
1
Search for reddit.com/.rss
In your feed reader, automation tools, dashboards and Slack or Teams integrations
2
Rank each feed
Revenue-critical (leads, support, brand alerts) vs. nice to have
3
Email your tool vendors
Ask how their Reddit data is sourced after November 13, 2026
4
Developers: register now
Request access before Oct 31 and plan the Developer Platform move
5
Claim the migration payment
$1,000 per eligible app; program deadline November 30
6
Set a check for Nov 14
Confirm alerts still arrive the day after RSS retires
Saazora checklist built from Reddit's announced dates. Checked October 2, 2026.
Do this once, before new API access requests close on October 31.
  1. Search your stack for "reddit.com" plus ".rss". Check feed readers, Zapier or Make accounts, dashboards, and Slack or Microsoft Teams integrations.
  2. Rank what you find. Anything tied to leads, support or brand reputation comes first.
  3. Email your vendors about their Reddit data source after November 13.
  4. Developers: request access before October 31 and start planning the Developer Platform move.
  5. Apply for the migration payment before November 30 if your app qualifies.
  6. Set a reminder for November 14 to confirm your alerts still arrive.

Reddit RSS feed shutdown FAQ

When does Reddit RSS stop working?

On November 13, 2026. After that date, RSS feeds for subreddits, users and searches stop delivering new posts. Reddit says there is no replacement for RSS used outside communities you moderate.

Is the Reddit API shutting down?

The free public Data API is closing in stages. New access requests end October 31, 2026, unregistered apps start losing access on January 12, 2027, and remaining public access closes in March 2027. Apps are expected to move to Reddit's Developer Platform.

Will Zapier still work with Reddit after November 13?

Automations built on Zapier's generic RSS trigger with a reddit.com feed URL will stop receiving posts. Check each automation's trigger. As of October 2, we had not found a Zapier statement on how its separate Reddit integration will handle the change.

Why is Reddit getting rid of RSS?

Reddit cites large-scale scraping and automated abuse. The move also follows Reddit's AI data licensing deals with Google and OpenAI, which makes free, unrestricted access to its content less attractive to the company.

What is the Reddit App Migration Program?

A $1 million fund that pays $1,000 to each eligible app moving to Reddit's Developer Platform, with free hosting and support. The deadline is November 30, 2026.

How we researched this

Reddit announced the change in r/modnews and r/redditdev posts on October 1, 2026. Our network could not open those posts directly, so the dates and quotes here come from detailed coverage by Yahoo Tech and Unite.ai. We will update this page if Reddit changes any date.
