Softr's free plan lets you build unlimited apps, but each workspace is capped at 5 app users, 5,000 database records, 500 workflow actions and 5 AI credits a month, with up to 3 builders. There is no custom domain and the Softr branding stays on. That is enough to build and test a real app, but most client portals and team tools outgrow it as soon as a sixth person needs to log in.
Softr changed its plans on August 5, 2026, and several pricing guides still show older numbers, such as 10 users and a custom domain on free. The figures below are the current ones.
Every Softr free plan limit, explained
- 5 app users in total. This is the limit that matters most. Free plans do not separate internal team users from external client users, and you cannot buy extra users. A person who uses several of your apps with the same email counts once, deactivated users do not count, and workspace builders do not count.
- 5,000 records in Softr Databases. Counted across all databases in the workspace. If your data lives in Airtable or Google Sheets instead, that tool's own limits apply too.
- 500 workflow actions a month. Triggers and flow controls do not count, only actions. When you hit the cap, workflows pause until the month resets or you upgrade.
- 5 AI credits a month. Used by the AI Co-Builder and other AI features. They reset monthly and do not roll over. You can keep building in the no-code editor when they run out.
- Up to 3 builders. Teammates who edit apps. More generous than Basic, which includes one.
- No custom domain. Your app stays on a Softr subdomain.
- Softr branding stays. Removing it needs the Pro plan.
- 42 integrations, including Airtable, Notion, Google Sheets and Slack, plus the Softr API and MCP.
What is unlimited: the number of apps, databases, workflows, agents and forms. So you can build several apps on free, as long as all of them together stay under 5 users.
What you can realistically build on the free plan
- A prototype to show a client or your team before you pay for anything.
- A personal tool or a tiny internal app for up to five people, such as a content calendar, an inventory list or a simple CRM.
- A public directory or website that visitors browse without logging in, since the 5-user cap applies to logged-in app users.
What does not fit: a client portal for more than a handful of clients, a member area, or anything you want on your own domain.

Basic is the cheapest way to get a custom domain and ten times the records, but it barely raises the user limit. Pro is the first plan built for client portals, with 50 client users included and extra users at $1 a month each. Business costs $329 a month billed yearly and adds two-factor authentication, an installable mobile app and priority support.
Five signs you have outgrown Softr free
- A sixth person needs to log in. This is the most common reason people upgrade.
- You want the app on your own domain, for example portal.yourcompany.com.
- Your workflows pause before the month ends because you used 500 actions.
- You need custom user groups, granular permissions, or Google sign-in for users, all of which start on Pro.
- Clients see the Softr badge and you want a branded experience.
How to pay less when you upgrade
- Pay yearly: Basic drops from $25 to $19 a month and Pro from $119 to $99.
- Nonprofits and education: Softr gives 50% off Basic, Pro and Business. You apply through its nonprofit form before subscribing. The discount rose from 30% to 50% with the August 2026 changes.
- Try before paying: new accounts get a 7-day Business trial, or 14 days if you add a card, so you can test paid features first.

Yes. The free plan has no time limit and does not need a card. Its limits are on usage: 5 app users, 5,000 records, 500 workflow actions and 5 AI credits a month.
How many users can I have on Softr for free?
Five logged-in app users in total across the workspace. Builders do not count, and you cannot buy more users on the free plan. Visitors browsing public pages without logging in are not app users.
Can I use a custom domain on Softr's free plan?
No. Custom domains start on Basic at $19 a month billed yearly, which includes one domain.
What changed in Softr's pricing in August 2026?
From August 5, 2026, Softr counts team and client users separately on paid plans, and bills extra users pay-as-you-go. The free plan now allows 5 users in total and no custom domain. Existing paid customers kept their legacy plans, and the nonprofit discount rose to 50%.
