AI & SaaS News, Nov 5: ChatGPT GIFs, ClickUp AI Credits

Last checked November 5, 2026 · News roundup

Today in brief: ChatGPT can now turn a prompt or a photo into an animated GIF with Images 2.6, and Google told K-12 schools that turning off its AI tools will also switch off Google Search for students. GitHub set December 2 as the day pull_request_target stops running by default on public repos, and local data center limits swept the November 3 ballots. On the SaaS side, ClickUp folded its AI add-ons into every plan, Figma and HubSpot reported third-quarter results, and AI sales startup Nooks lined up $500 million from General Catalyst.

Can ChatGPT make GIFs? Images 2.6 adds them on every plan

Yes, as of November 4. OpenAI's Images 2.6 update lets ChatGPT and Codex users turn a text prompt or an uploaded image into an animated GIF, then change the playback speed and edit single frames before sharing, according to coverage by AlphaSignal and HuggingNews. The rollout covers all subscription tiers on web, desktop and mobile, RuntimeWire reported.

Three smaller changes ride along: a library of saved reference images (a pet, a character, a person) you can reuse without uploading again, markup to circle the part of an image you want changed, and SVG export for vector files. OpenAI also says ChatGPT, Codex and the API now generate more than 4 billion images a week.

For developers there are two API models: GPT-Image-2.6 Flare, tuned for speed ("as little as six seconds" per image, OpenAI says), and GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst, tuned for quality and consistent edits. Coverage does not agree on API prices, so check OpenAI's pricing page before you budget. GIFs have no separate paywall, but your plan's normal image limits still apply, AlphaSignal noted.

What to do: if you make social clips or product loops, test a short GIF on a low-stakes asset first and check frame quality before you drop a paid GIF tool.

Google Search off for students: the catch for schools that turn off Gemini

Google said on November 3 that its AI tools for K-12 student accounts (Gemini, the Gemini notebook tool, Gemini in Classroom and AI in Search) will be off by default next year until a school administrator turns them on. The catch: a school that keeps AI off also loses Google Search for students, who will see a notice that Search is unavailable. "Search and AI are deeply integrated," Google VP of education Chris Phillips told The New York Times, as cited by TechCrunch.

In early 2027, schools will choose between two versions, 9to5Google reported: one with AI Overviews and other AI features, or one where Guided Learning, a tutor mode that walks students through a problem instead of giving the answer, takes their place. Guided Learning launched in Google Classroom worldwide on November 3, and a pilot starts in select US schools this month.

Who it affects: US school districts on Google Workspace for Education, and parents whose kids use school Chromebooks. IT admins should expect the setup choice before the 2027 school terms and plan a filtered-search fallback if they block AI entirely. Google says more details will reach schools "in the coming months."

GitHub pull_request_target blocked December 2: brownouts start November 9

GitHub Actions will block pull_request_target events by default on December 2, 2026, according to a GitHub changelog post on November 2. The trigger runs workflows with repository secrets on pull requests from forks, which makes it a favorite target for "pwn request" attacks. The rule covers public repositories on GitHub Free, Team and Enterprise Cloud. Private and internal repos and GitHub Enterprise Server are not affected. The date was moved from November 2.

Two brownouts come first, on November 9 and November 16 from 16:00 to 18:00 UTC. During those windows, blocked runs fail with an error annotation. Between brownouts, the rule stays in evaluate mode, so workflows run with warnings.

What to do: open Actions Insights before November 9 to see which runs would be blocked. If a workflow truly needs the trigger (labelers and bots, often), allow it explicitly in an Actions event policy, scoped to that workflow file only.

Also from GitHub this week: Copilot now works as an agent inside JetBrains Air (November 3). Cloud tasks bill against your Copilot plan instead of JetBrains AI credits, and Air admins can switch Copilot off but cannot set Copilot spending limits there.

Did data centers lose in the midterms? 33 local limits passed

Mostly, yes. Of the local ballot measures tracked by the Data Centers on the Ballot project, 33 measures restricting data centers had won by November 4, six more were leading, one had failed and five had no posted results, Tom's Hardware reported. A second tracker it cited counted 46 measures across 10 states and found that 11 of 13 measures that would permit data centers looked likely to lose. The measures ranged from outright bans and moratoriums to size and power-use caps. In Piqua, Ohio, voters recalled the mayor and two council members who had backed data centers.

The vote lands as Democrats take control of Congress, as TechCrunch noted on November 4, and as OpenAI's Chris Lehane warned in an essay that a data center moratorium could cost the US its lead over China.

Why SaaS buyers should care: local limits slow the new capacity that AI vendors are counting on. For most subscribers nothing changes this month, but expect "compute" to keep showing up in price-increase notices.

Part 2 · SaaS & business

ClickUp AI pricing now: Brain add-ons gone, credits built into each plan

ClickUp removed its separate AI pricing page, which had listed Brain AI at $9 a month and Everything AI at $28 a month, and now bundles a pooled allowance of AI credits into every plan, pricing tracker PricingSaaS reported after comparing snapshots from October 26 and November 2. It also added a top MAX tier at $100. This follows the Core price rise from $8 to $9 that we covered in our October 22 roundup.

When we checked ClickUp's pricing page on November 5, every plan showed its credit allowance (table below). Extra usage comes as AI Super Credits at $10 per 10,000 credits, with auto top-up, and covers Super Agents, AI Fields and image generation. The page lists annual prices only; monthly billing costs more (ClickUp says yearly saves up to 33%).

What to do: if you paid for Brain AI on top of a plan, check your next invoice for the removed add-on, and switch off auto top-up until you know how fast your team burns credits. For other tools changing AI billing this season, see our SaaS price change tracker.

ClickUp plans and included AI credits

Plan Price per user/month (billed yearly) AI credits included each month
Free Forever $0 500 per workspace (Brain² trial)

Figma earnings Q3 2026: revenue up 43% as AI credit use spreads

Figma reported third-quarter revenue of $391.4 million on November 4, up 43% from a year earlier and $16.4 million above the top of its own forecast. Net dollar retention was 131%, and 16,566 paid customers now spend more than $10,000 a year. Figma raised its full-year revenue outlook by $33 million to $1.497 billion to $1.499 billion, and guided fourth-quarter revenue to $402 million to $404 million, about 33% growth.

The AI numbers explain where Figma is steering: as of October 31, 65% of customers spending over $10,000 used the Figma agent weekly and more than 80% were consuming AI credits. MCP usage tripled from the prior quarter. Code Layers went into open beta on October 14. Shares still slipped about 7% after hours, NewsBytes reported, as investors weighed Figma's choice to put long-term AI growth ahead of quick wins.

Who it affects: design teams on paid seats. Credit use is now a growth metric for Figma, so watch your workspace's AI credit usage page before renewal.

HubSpot Q3 2026 results: $947.6 million and a slower fourth quarter

HubSpot's third-quarter revenue was $947.6 million, up 17%, according to its November 4 earnings release. Customers rose 12% to 311,704, and average subscription revenue per customer rose 4% to $12,038. The fourth-quarter outlook of $945 million to $947 million implies 12% growth, and full-year 2026 revenue is guided to $3.685 billion to $3.687 billion.

The release names "changes to pricing and go-to-market strategy" and customer buying behavior around AI among its risks, and CEO Yamini Rangan said HubSpot is "transforming" for what it calls the Outcomes Era. We read that as a hint that more outcome- or usage-based charges will sit on top of seat prices, though HubSpot has not announced new prices.

What to do: small teams comparing CRM costs before 2027 budgets can start with our list of the best free CRMs for small businesses, then price paid seats against your real contact count.

Nooks gets $500 million from General Catalyst, but it isn't equity

AI sales startup Nooks secured a $500 million commitment from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, Reuters reported on November 4. It is not a share sale: General Catalyst pre-funds Nooks' sales and marketing and takes a capped share of the revenue that spending brings in, and payments depend on Nooks getting paid, according to Unite.AI's summary. CEO Dan Lee declined to share detailed terms.

Nooks also formally launched its Revenue Agent Platform, which covers prospecting, dialing, sequencing, follow-up and coaching. The company reports more than 2,000 customers and 135% net revenue retention.

Why it matters: revenue-based funding lets an AI sales tool spend hard on growth without pricing pressure from a new valuation, so expect aggressive trials and discounts in AI dialers this quarter. If you are shopping, compare it against the tools in our sales prospecting tools guide or browse the sales outreach hub.

The Saazora take: one deadline, one bill, one setting

  • Deadline: if you maintain a public GitHub repo, check Actions Insights before the November 9 brownout. It takes five minutes and saves a broken release day.
  • Bill: ClickUp and Figma now both meter AI in credits. Find the usage page in each admin console and note this month's burn as your baseline.
  • Setting: parents and school IT should watch for Google's early-2027 choice. "AI off" no longer means "Search on."

FAQ: GIFs, school Search and ClickUp credits

Is ChatGPT GIF creation free?

There is no separate fee. Images 2.6 is rolling out to all ChatGPT subscription tiers, RuntimeWire reported on November 4, and GIFs count against your plan's normal image limits, AlphaSignal noted. Coverage did not spell out how many GIFs a free account gets, so lower tiers should expect to hit caps first.

Will students lose Google Search if their school blocks Gemini?

Yes, under the plan Google announced on November 3. From next year, K-12 schools that keep Google's AI tools switched off for students also switch off Google Search for those accounts. Schools that want Search can pick a version with AI Overviews or one with Guided Learning, Google's tutor-style mode.

How do I keep a pull_request_target workflow running after December 2?

Add an explicit allowance for pull_request_target in an Actions event policy and scope it to the specific workflow files that need it. Check Actions Insights first to see which runs the default rule would block. Private and internal repositories and GitHub Enterprise Server are not affected by the change.

Does ClickUp still sell Brain AI as an add-on?

No. ClickUp removed the standalone AI pricing page that listed Brain AI at $9 and Everything AI at $28 per month. Each plan now includes pooled AI credits, from 1,000 per user on Core to 10,000 on MAX. Teams that need more buy AI Super Credits at $10 per 10,000.
