For a team of two to five sellers, the best sales prospecting tools are the ones that do not charge per seat for data you share. Hunter, Snov.io and FullEnrich each sell one pool of credits that the whole team draws from, so a three-person team pays $29 to $49 a month to start. Apollo.io packs the most into one login but bills every seat, which puts three people at $195 a month. RocketReach suits name-by-name lookups that include direct dials, and Leadfeeder and Close cover the steps before and after the email address: knowing which companies are interested, and working the deal.
Below, seven prospecting tools are compared on what one verified work email costs, what a three-seat team really pays, and what each free plan lets you try first. Every price comes from the vendor's own pricing page. For reviews of individual tools, see our sales prospecting tools hub.
Which prospecting tool fits a small sales team?
Pick by the job you need done, then by how the vendor counts users: once a second or third person joins, the pricing model matters more than the headline price.
| Tool | Best for | Free option | Entry paid plan (monthly billing) | Pricing model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apollo.io | One login for database, sequences and dialer | Free plan, 75 credits per seat a month | Basic, $65 per seat ($49 yearly) | Per seat, credits pooled |
| Hunter | Finding emails from a company domain | Free plan, 50 credits a month | Starter, $49 ($34 yearly) | Flat, unlimited team members |
| Snov.io | Cheapest flat plan with finder plus cold email | Trial plan, 50 credits renewed monthly | Starter, $39 ($29.25 yearly) | Flat, unlimited team seats |
| RocketReach | Email and direct dial lookups by name | 5 free lookups, no card | Essentials, $69 for 100 lookups ($399 a year) | Per seat |
| FullEnrich | Filling gaps, especially mobile numbers | 50 free credits, no card | Pro, $29 for 500 credits ($26 yearly) | Flat, unlimited users |
| Leadfeeder | Seeing which companies visit your site | Lite, free forever | Discover, from $113 ($79 yearly) | By companies identified a month |
| Close | Calling, emailing and tracking the deals | 14-day trial, no card | Solo, $19 for one user; Essentials, $49 per user | Per user |

How much does one verified email cost on each tool?
Divide the entry plan's monthly price by the emails its credits can buy and the spread is huge: from under 3 cents to 69 cents. The table assumes every credit goes to work emails.
| Plan (monthly billing) | Price | Credit rule for one email | Emails per month | Cost per email |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Starter | $49 | 1 credit per email found | 2,000 | $0.025 |
| Apollo Basic (1 seat) | $65 | 1 credit per email | 2,500 | $0.026 |
| Snov.io Starter | $39 | 1 credit per prospect or verification | 1,000 | $0.039 |
| FullEnrich Pro | $29 | 1 credit per work email found | 500 | $0.058 |
| RocketReach Essentials | $69 | 1 lookup per contact with a verified result | 100 | $0.69 |

The cheapest number is not automatically the best deal. Three details change the math:
- Who pays for a miss. Hunter, FullEnrich and RocketReach say no credit is used when nothing is found. That protects your budget on hard-to-find contacts, where any database may come back empty.
- What happens to unused credits. Apollo and Hunter credits reset each month with no rollover. FullEnrich lets unused credits roll forward (a quarter on monthly billing, a full year on yearly), which suits teams whose prospecting comes in bursts.
- What one unit buys. On RocketReach Pro and Ultimate, a single lookup covers both email and phone. You pay more per contact, but you are not spending extra credits for each data type.
Per-seat or flat price: what does a three-person team pay?
This is where small teams save or waste the most money. Here is the monthly bill for three people on the cheapest plan that allows three users, with monthly billing:
| Tool and plan | How three users are billed | Monthly cost for 3 people |
|---|---|---|
| FullEnrich Pro | Unlimited users share 500 credits | $29 |
| Snov.io Starter | Unlimited team seats share 1,000 credits | $39 |
| Hunter Starter | Unlimited team members share 2,000 credits | $49 |
| Leadfeeder Discover | Priced by companies identified, not by user | From $113 |
| Close Essentials | $49 per user (Solo is limited to 1 user) | $147 |
| Apollo Basic | $65 per seat, 7,500 credits pooled | $195 |
| RocketReach Team Essentials | $66 per seat with 2 or more seats | $198 |

Per-seat pricing is not bad in itself. Apollo's three seats come with 7,500 pooled credits, sequences and a dialer, which would take two or three flat-priced tools to match. Price the team you have now: if one person researches and the others only send email, a single-seat data tool plus a shared outreach tool usually costs less.
The 7 best sales prospecting tools, and why each made the list
Apollo.io: best all-in-one for teams that want one login
Apollo puts a contact database, email sequences, a dialer, meeting scheduling and a basic deal pipeline in one product. The free plan gives 75 credits per seat a month, 2 sequences per team and 250 email sends a day from one Gmail mailbox. Basic costs $65 per seat a month, or $49 billed yearly, with 2,500 credits per seat a month (30,000 a year granted upfront on yearly billing). Professional is $99 monthly or $79 yearly. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number 8.
Watch for: every seat on an account must be on the same plan, unused credits expire each billing cycle, and Apollo's FAQ says downgrades take effect immediately with no refund for unused time. The Organization plan is yearly only, with a 3-seat minimum.
Hunter: best for finding emails from a company domain
Hunter's strength is simple: type a company's domain and see the email addresses and pattern it uses, then verify them. One credit buys one email found and half a credit buys one verification, with no charge when nothing is found. The free plan includes 50 credits a month. Starter is $49 a month or $34 billed yearly ($408 a year) for 2,000 credits a month, and Growth is $149 monthly or $104 yearly for 10,000. Every plan allows unlimited team members sharing one pool.
Watch for: Hunter is email-first; its pricing page lists no phone-number credits. Monthly credits reset and do not roll over, and the free plan connects only one email account for sequences.
Snov.io: cheapest flat plan with outreach included
Snov.io bundles an email finder, a verifier, drip campaigns, email warm-up and a light CRM. Its Trial plan never expires: it renews every 30 days with 50 credits, 100 recipients and 25 enrichment tokens. Starter costs $39 a month, or $29.25 a month billed yearly, for 1,000 credits, 5,000 recipients and 3 warm-up slots, with unlimited team seats. Each prospect and each verification costs 1 credit.
Watch for: the Trial plan has no bulk search, export, integrations or API, so it is for testing only. LinkedIn automation needs a separate account slot at $69 a month per slot.
RocketReach: best for direct dials and name-based lookups
RocketReach works best when you already know who you want: search by name, title or company, and spend a lookup only when it returns a verified email or phone. A free account comes with 5 lookups and no card. Essentials is $69 a month for 100 email-only lookups; Pro adds phone numbers at $119 a month for 250 lookups; Ultimate is $209 for 1,000. Yearly plans switch to unlimited lookups with export caps: $399 a year for Essentials (1,200 exports) and $899 for Pro (3,600).
Watch for: per-contact cost on monthly plans is the highest in this list, and the free lookups are a one-time sample rather than a monthly allowance, as our guide to what RocketReach's free account includes explains. Before paying, read our review of RocketReach data quality, and compare per-plan costs in our RocketReach plan comparison. You can try RocketReach's 5 free lookups with no card, and annual savings are tracked on the RocketReach offers page.
FullEnrich: best for filling gaps and finding mobiles
FullEnrich is built around enrichment: you upload a list, connect HubSpot or call the API, and it checks 25+ data providers in sequence until one returns a verified result. People and company search is included too. Credits are spent only on data that is found and verified: a work email takes 1 credit, a personal address 3 and a mobile 10, while landlines come back at no charge. The free trial gives 50 credits with no card, and paid Pro plans begin with 500 credits for $29 monthly ($26 on yearly billing). Every plan includes unlimited users.
Watch for: at 10 credits each, mobiles cost about 58 cents apiece on the entry tier, so budget credits for phones separately. Our FullEnrich credit math by plan size shows how the price per credit drops at higher tiers. To test it on your own list, claim FullEnrich's 50 free credits; current offers are on our FullEnrich coupon page.
Leadfeeder: best for knowing who is already interested
Leadfeeder identifies the companies behind your website traffic, so your lookups go to accounts that have already shown interest. The free-forever Lite plan has no user cap and shows up to 100 identified companies a month from a one-week window, plus 20 credits monthly; new accounts also get every feature for their first 14 days. Paid Discover starts at $113 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly, and the price tier depends on how many companies are identified each month. Activate, which adds verified emails and phones, starts at $369 a month billed yearly.
Watch for: it names companies, not people, so pair it with one of the finders above. Our walkthrough on identifying the companies on your website covers the setup. You can start on Leadfeeder Lite without a card, and yearly discounts are listed on our Leadfeeder savings page.
Close: best place to call, email and track the deals
Close is a sales CRM with email, calling and SMS built in, so a small team can work a list without adding a separate dialer. Solo is $19 a month, or $9 billed yearly, for one user and up to 10,000 leads. Essentials, the first plan for a team, is $49 per user a month or $35 yearly. Growth adds automated workflows, a power dialer and bulk email at $109 per user monthly or $99 yearly. Calling is passed through at cost; Close says most outbound calls run about $0.02 a minute.
Watch for: workflows are not included below Growth. You can trial it for 14 days without a card, and paid plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you would rather trial Close for 14 days, check the Close CRM savings page for the yearly discount first. Not ready to pay for a CRM at all? Our guide to free-forever CRM plans compares seven that cost nothing.
Until December 31, 2026, new Close customers who choose annual billing can enter code STACK20 at checkout for an extra 20% off the first year, which Close says works out to up to 60% off the monthly rate depending on plan. It applies to annual plans only and can't be combined with other promotions.
Do you need phone numbers, or are emails enough?
Most small teams should start with email only and add phones for a short list of top accounts. On the two credit-based tools that price phones separately, a number costs 8 to 10 times the credits of an email:
- Apollo: 8 credits per phone number against 1 per email. On Basic monthly, that is about 21 cents a phone.
- FullEnrich: 10 credits per mobile against 1 per work email, or about 58 cents on the entry tier. No charge if only a landline turns up.
- RocketReach: phones need Pro or higher. At $119 for 250 lookups, each contact costs about 48 cents, phone included.
- Hunter: no phone credits listed on its pricing page; use it for emails only.
If your team sells by phone first, compare RocketReach Pro and FullEnrich on the same 20 contacts before you commit.
Three starter stacks by budget
- Free, for testing: Leadfeeder Lite to see interested companies, Hunter's 50 monthly credits or Snov.io's Trial to find their emails, and FullEnrich's 50 free credits for a few mobiles. Total: $0, enough to see whether outbound works for you.
- $68 to $78 a month for the whole team: Hunter Starter ($49) or Snov.io Starter ($39) for emails, plus FullEnrich Pro ($29) for mobiles and gaps. Everyone shares the same pools, so adding a fourth person costs nothing.
- About $200 a month for three people: Apollo Basic on three seats ($195) if you want data, sequences and a dialer in one place. Add Close Essentials later if the team outgrows Apollo's pipeline.
Sales prospecting tool questions
What is the best sales prospecting tool for a small team?
For most teams of two to five, a flat-priced finder is the best value: Hunter Starter at $49 a month or Snov.io Starter at $39 lets the whole team share one credit pool. Choose Apollo.io instead if you want the database, sequences and dialer in a single tool and can pay $65 per seat a month.
Is there a free sales prospecting tool?
Yes, several have free plans that renew. Apollo's free plan includes 75 credits per seat a month, Hunter's 50 credits a month, Snov.io's Trial 50 credits every 30 days, and Leadfeeder Lite names up to 100 companies on your site each month. RocketReach and FullEnrich give one-time free allowances instead.
Which prospecting tool is cheapest for phone numbers?
On entry plans, Apollo's 8 credits per phone works out to about 21 cents on Basic monthly, lower than FullEnrich (about 58 cents per mobile) or RocketReach Pro (about 48 cents per lookup). FullEnrich and RocketReach charge only when a number is found, so compare results on your own list.
How this guide was researched
We read each vendor's pricing page and pricing FAQ on October 12, 2026, recording US prices for monthly and yearly billing, included credits, what one credit buys, user limits and free allowances. RocketReach plan prices come from the plan data behind its pricing page, and FullEnrich's from its published pricing summary. Cost per email and three-seat totals are our own math, assuming every credit is used. This is a research-based guide, not a hands-on test of data accuracy. LinkedIn Sales Navigator was left out because its prices are only shown after sign-in. See how we review software.
