Yes, Emergent is free to start. The free plan costs $0, needs no credit card and gives you 10 credits a month to build web and mobile apps with Emergent's AI agent. That is enough to test an idea or build a small prototype, but not enough to keep an app online: every deployed app uses 50 credits a month, and free credits reset each month without rolling over.

What you get on Emergent's free plan
| Included free | Not included free |
|---|---|
| 10 credits every month | Private project hosting |
| Web and mobile app building | GitHub integration |
| Access to advanced AI models | Forking tasks |
| One-click LLM integration in your app | Enough credits to keep an app deployed (50 a month) |
| All core platform features | Priority support and custom agents (Pro) |
The important limit is credits, not features. Emergent uses credits for everything its agent does, from planning and writing code to fixing errors, so the same 10 credits can go a long way on a simple page or disappear on one tricky bug.
What 10 free credits can realistically build

- Good fit: a landing page, a simple form or calculator, a first draft of an app screen, or a quick test of whether Emergent understands your idea.
- Tight fit: an app with a login and a database. You can usually start it, but expect to run out before it is finished.
- Not possible on free credits alone: keeping an app deployed. Hosting uses 50 credits a month per app, five times the free allowance.
Emergent does not publish a fixed credit cost per task, because it depends on how much work the agent does. The best approach is to use your first month of free credits on one small feature and note how many credits it takes. That number tells you which paid plan you would actually need.
How to make free credits last longer
- Write a detailed first prompt. List the pages, fields and actions you want. Vague prompts lead to rework, and rework uses credits.
- Build one feature at a time. Ask for the core screen first, check it, then add the next part.
- Fix small things yourself where you can. Changing a label or a color by hand costs nothing; asking the agent costs credits.
- Do not deploy until you are ready to pay. Deployment is what turns a free experiment into a monthly cost.
When the free plan stops being enough

Most people move to Standard at $20 a month, or $17 billed yearly. It includes 100 credits a month, private hosting and GitHub integration, enough to keep one app live with 50 credits left for edits. If you need more, extra credits cost about $0.20 each and can be added to any plan, which is usually cheaper than jumping to Pro at $200 a month. Our Emergent pricing guide works through the numbers for each plan, and current offers are on our Emergent deals page.
Before paying, note that Emergent's terms say payments are generally non-refundable and unused monthly credits expire at the end of each cycle. Start monthly, measure your real credit use, then switch to annual billing once it is steady.
Is Emergent free? FAQ
Do I need a credit card for Emergent's free plan?
No. You can sign up and use the 10 monthly credits without entering payment details.
Do Emergent free credits roll over?
No. The 10 free credits reset at the start of each month, and unused credits are lost. Credits bought as top-ups are separate from plan credits.
Can I publish an app on Emergent for free?
Not for long. Each deployed app uses 50 credits a month, while the free plan includes 10. To keep an app live you need Standard or extra credits.
Is there an Emergent free trial of paid plans?
Emergent does not advertise a separate trial; the free plan works as the trial. You can upgrade at any time and cancel future renewals from your account page.
Is Emergent legit?
Yes. Emergent is a venture-backed company that raised a $130 million Series C in 2026 at a $1.5 billion valuation, as covered in our Emergent valuation report. User reviews are mixed, mostly over how quickly credits run out, so start free before paying. Our Emergent review covers the strengths and weak spots.
The simplest test is free: sign up for Emergent's free plan, build one small feature and see how many of your 10 credits it uses.
How we checked
Plan features, credit allowances and hosting costs come from Emergent's pricing page and help center, checked in October 2026. Credit-use estimates are illustrative because Emergent does not publish fixed costs per task. More builders are compared in AI app builders; see how we review software.
